I'm sorry to hear that. They are indeed very high. A friend of mine's brother committed suicide a few years ago, and she knows about another 4 or 5 people who've killed themselves. She used to live in Tralee - which apparently has one of the highest rates of suicide in Ireland.
I know Alex, it's not right. Kildare can't be too far behind in the stats because I know of another bloke who killed himself last week and another neighbour's one year anniversary was recently. These deaths affect so many people and nothing is being done to deal with the issue.
@conwaykt: That's awful. Hope you're doing ok. It's just one in a long list of issues that aren't being handled well. The only person I've ever known who committed suicide was the case in Wexford this year where the guy drugged his children, shot his wife and burnt his house down. He was a client of ours and we'd travelled to Italy with him to take photos of his villa. I was completely stunned by that.
@alexleonard That case was shocking. Apparently there was a story on the news this evening about the suicide rates in Ireland - higher than road deaths? I'm not sure, I didn't see it but I just feel that something needs to be done.
In France , the suicdide rate of the youth increase every year. the most shocking , is that now , using internet , the young who feels bad , speak to other young in the same case, and they organize group suicide.
They're a lot of association for the people who has problem and feel despress, but it's hard to force them to speek. they're just locked in their bubble .
Sorry to hear that Katie. Its a terrible thing when it happens, you can never truly know how someone really feels or what they are thinking. One of my best friends in school killed himself a week before the leaving cert. And he was the happiest of people in public so it came as a big shock to all.I have to admit its the cowardly thing to do,and the family has to deal with the consequences.

well suicide is a hard issue to deal with. You can't be in someone heads , and you can't know when a smile is a make-up to hide personal issue.

You're right Yoann but there must be something we can do to help people so they don't need to resort to suicide.

It's not just youth suicide here, but it's mainly male suicides.
